SHOW-STOPPING ‘STACHES ENJOY SPECIALLY PRICED BEER AT SIN CITY BREWING CO. IN NOVEMBER

Oct 30, 2014   //   by Meghan Pescio   //   Community News  //  No Comments

Lip toupees can have suds for days as Las Vegas’ own Sin City Brewing Company offers specially priced craft beer for patrons rocking a mustache during the month of November for a fundraiser dubbed,“MovemBEER.”

In support of the popular men’s health awareness month, Sin City Brewing Co. will salute lip sweaters by discounting guests’ first pint of beer in accordance with the style and visible commitment of their ‘stache.

The five styles of mustaches eligible for a discounted first pint include:

  • BARLEY Chaplin – 10% off
  • HOPprentice (basic ‘stache) – 20% off
  • HandleBEERS – 30% off
  • EinSTEIN – 40% off
  • Fu ManBREW – 50% off

To honor arguably the greatest mustache of all time, lipholstery legend Tom Selleck is invited to visit any Sin City location for free beer, because his mustache is frankly unquantifiable.

Mustached gentlemen will receive the VIP MovemBEER treatment between November 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014 at all three Sin City bars including Strip-front at Harmon Corner (Harmon Ave. and Las Vegas Blvd.), within Miracle Mile Shops and in The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian.

For Sin City’s female craft beer fans, facial hair is not required to participate. Any patron who tweets a photo with their best “finger ‘stache” tagging @SinCityBeer and #MovemBEER can receive the HOPprentice discount upon showing their tweet to the bartender.

The MovemBEER promotion is applicable to all styles of craft beer at Sin City’s three locations. This includes the local brewery’s five signature styles – Amber, IPA, Light, Weiss, Stout – as well as the rotating seasonal brew, which is currently a malty Steam Beer.

Sin City will donate a portion of the proceeds from all MovemBEER-related sales to The Movember Foundation at the end of the month.

*MovemBEER discounts are at the discretion of the bartender and only applicable to the guest’s first pint of beer purchased. This offer cannot be combined with any other discount.

The Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada Offer Lifesaving Tips For Halloween

Oct 28, 2014   //   by Meghan Pescio   //   In the Know  //  No Comments

It is the time of year for trick-or-treating, scary costumes, candy, and pumpkins. By making small adjustments during this time to costumes and decoration choices danger and risk to public safety is easily decreased. The Professional Firefighters of Nevada (PFFN) reminds the community to be safe this Halloween by offering some safety tips.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, there is an overall increase in fires on Halloween caused by open flames. Here are some tips for this Halloween:

  • Keep decorations and costumes away from flames and heat sources.
  • Use flameless LED candles instead of candles to decorate the home and walkways.
  • Make sure your children’s costumes have eyeholes big enough for them to see out of.
  • Provide flashlights or glow sticks to carry for lighting.
  • Tell children to stay away from open flames and be sure your children know how to stop, drop, and roll in case their costume catches fire.
  • Know the exits of any Halloween party or home you go to.

Rusty McAllister, President of the PFFN, says “This Halloween we want to reduce the Halloween night fires by informing people in our state with our safety tips. With an overall increase of fires on Halloween, we urge community members to take safety precautions to make sure they have nothing other than a fun-filled Halloween.”

Please call 9-1-1 for help of your local fire fighters in the case of a fire emergency.

The PFFN wishes you a happy and safe Halloween.

MJ Christensen Diamonds and BeadforLife Come Together to Fight Extreme Poverty

Oct 27, 2014   //   by Meghan Pescio   //   Community News  //  1 Comment

Just as Cliff & Darlene Miller of MJ Christensen Diamonds  believe that a gift of fine jewelry is an intimate expression of love, this love extends even more deeply by connecting to hardworking women in Uganda who are living on less than one dollar per day. The family-owned business has announced that on Wednesday, November 12th from 6-8pm at Emerald at Queensridge, they will host the 5th Annual Runway For Life Event, benefiting BeadforLife members by featuring their handcrafted jewelry, shea butter body products, and more!  This jewelry, created with recycled paper, becomes opportunity, empowerment, and lights the spark needed to achieve lasting self-sufficiency.

MJ Christensen is taking its reputation of extraordinary community involvement and philanthropic leadership to a whole new level with this dynamic partnership. The two organizations connect with their shared passion for creating beautiful jewelry, and MJ’s compassion is now touching a whole new group of families’ worlds away. Although they are thousands of miles apart, their hearts will connect during this special event celebrated on November 12th.  The focus of Runway For Life is not only for guests to experience beautiful recycled paper jewelry, but also to educate and inspire the community on how they can make a difference in the fight against extreme poverty.

“Like these women half a world away, we create and sell beautiful jewelry, says Cliff Miller, owner of MJ Christensen along with his wife Darlene. “It is an honor to showcase the fruits of their labor and spread the word about this fantastic organization, BeadforLife.” he adds.

BeadforLife is a non-profit collaboration of women in Uganda and concerned global citizens.  Members in Uganda roll beautiful bead jewelry from recycled paper and gather shea nuts which become natural body products.  Engaged people worldwide create markets for these products and educate themselves and others about extreme poverty.  The profits return to fight extreme poverty specifically in areas of health care, housing and business training initiatives. (Jewelry prices range from $4 – $85)

The evening’s celebration will be emceed by FOX5 MORE Show’s very own Rachel Smith and will be held at Emerald at Queensridge, an upscale, family-owned wedding venue that will be transformed into an African inspired marketplace!   Events include a live African drum circle, fashion models, as well as a unique African themed dance performance by Dance Connections.  Personal fashion stylist, Jenna Doughton, will share her skills on site at the premier style bar emphasizing the versatility of the colorful jewelry, and Elements Massage will soothe guests with pampering hand massages using BeadforLife shea products!  Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and sip African themed cocktails while they shop thousands of handmade pieces of jewelry! Entry fee is a $10 donation to BeadforLife, which includes a raffle ticket to win fabulous prizes!

“We are so honored by the generosity, commitment, and passion that MJ Christensen is taking to feature and sell our jewelry in Las Vegas,” says Heather Ditillo, North American Program Director for BeadforLife. “We are thankful for the opportunity to share for the 5th consecutive year the story of how these recycled paper beads become hope for so many hard-working Ugandan women to lift their families out of poverty,” she adds.  She says that it is a natural partnership that hadn’t been considered before – with both organizations making their living by selling beautiful jewelry. “We are so grateful for their support and innovative thinking, and hope that this will become a model for other jewelers and retailers across the country,” Ditillo adds.

Together, MJ Christensen and BeadforLife are truly changing the world. MJ invites the community to get involved with BeadforLife and join in the 5th anniversary celebration.
